A brief life update.
There was a recent snow storm. It was luscious – all-natural powdered sugar galore! My car got stuck in the snow like fifteen times…in the driveway. There was a lot of shoveling involved to get my poor car free.
And it was the winter solstice, which meant lots of darkness and depth diving…aka yoga in front of my cute fireplace altar:
I love, love, love diving into winter! It involves cooking and baking a lot to keep the house cozy and warm 24/7. There’s nothing cozier than a kitchen where things are being alchemized all day: fermenting doughs, veggie broths, hearty stews, you name it!
I’ve been especially enjoying the making of Amazake, a sweet fermented rice drink. I used to have a Chinese version of it when I was younger, so it is very homey to me. It simmers away for 8 hours in my open rice cooker and I have to be sure it’s at the perfect temperature all throughout the process! I really, really love a good, long process.
I also have been loving creating recipes with squashes. Look out for my future recipes that’ll highlight those sweet gems of nature! Squash puree is such an underrated ingredient in baking – it blew me away when I first tried it out in a cake recipe!
